10 Habits of Highly Successful People

Truly successful people all share a number of qualities that differentiate them from others.

The habits a person has attributed to them can really be a deciding factor to an individual’s success. I’ve compiled a list below of the 10 habits successful people share.

1) They don’t wait for anyone else to motivate them:

True motivation is self-motivation. Although a little encouragement from others can help, it really is all down to the individual. Motivated people find success without looking to others for encouragement or push.

2) They’re nice to people:

It’s all well and good being good at your job, but at the end of the day, it’s your overall attitude that will take you places. Everyone has worked with ‘The d*ckhead’ – fantastic at their job, but overall a smug, self-important, and mean person. It may seem like this type of person always has the luck – but remaining a genuinely nice person, working in a team, and encouraging others’ success alongside yours will always work in your favor. People will remember you for this.

3) They surround themselves with the right people:

Nothing can drain motivation more than surrounding yourself with negative people. Your friends and peers should celebrate your success – not try and drag you down. Successful people let go of the toxic people in their lives and surround themselves with people that truly care for them.

4) They’re weird:

Something that successful people always are is different. Channeling your inner weirdo is what sets successful people apart from their peers. Be yourself and don’t hide your quirks, they’re what people will remember you for.

5) They don’t put things off:

Putting things off works in a vicious circle. We put things off, then we beat ourselves up about it, which undermines our confidence, which then leads to more procrastination. The trick of highly successful people is that they don’t put off for tomorrow what they can do today.

6) They do it for the right reason:

A truly successful person works because they feel truly passionate about what they’re working towards. If you’re in it for the money or to beat a competitor, then forget it. Although these can be great motivators, the fundamental reason for your hard work should be much bigger. A famous example of this is Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, who instead of working for riches or to be the best social network, just wants to simply connect the world online.

7) They enjoy work:

A tip for being truly successful is to find something you genuinely love doing. Success naturally follows.

8) They don’t compare themselves to others:

Comparing yourself to others is not only disastrous when it comes to your self-esteem, but it can also be disastrous when it comes to your career. It’s a losing battle – comparing yourself to others will never really achieve anything. Similarly to the last point, successful people have a sense of self that can’t be damaged by external factors.

9) They don’t look the part:

Successful people never have to seek approval from others in order to validate their own success. That’s why truly successful people aren’t the flashy, ‘look-at-me’ type. They have inner confidence which means they don’t have to show off to impress people. At the end of the day, inevitably it’s the show-off who is probably the one struggling.

10) They share their knowledge:

Being successful means you obviously have a piece of deep knowledge of your field. What better way to use this knowledge than to share it with others? Successful people are often natural leaders and a way to truly embrace this knowledge is to give it to others.
