Forget Job Titles: Here’s What Really Matters in Your Career

There are many ways you can measure the success of your career. Your pay packet, your job title, the size of your team. But when it comes down to it , and you begin to look at the bigger picture, these measurements don’t mean a thing. You could have a great paying job with an impressive title – but if you don’t enjoy your day-to-day life due to the stress – it could be argued that you’re not successful at all.

Everybody has a different idea of success – but if we’re getting down to the nitty gritty about the fundamentals of work, life and happiness, here are a few ways that you may be able to distinguish success other than your pay check!

You have a voice

If you feel like you have a real voice – whether that be in the industry as a whole, your office, or simply your team – you’ll feel way more successful than any pay check can. Contributing and making a difference can make a big difference to your working life. If you feel like you have no impact, then you’ll never feel like you have much success.

You’re challenged

If you second everyday in your office bored out of your mind, 9 times out of 10 it’s because you’re not being challenged enough in your role. Sometimes, if you’re not feeling challenged, you lose motivation and inspiration – which is not a good sign.

You’ve created something new

If you’ve created something new – whether that be a product, an idea or just a new way of doing things – then this is a definite sign of success. We all want to have a large effect on our workplaces.

You’ve formed great relationships with customers/clients

If you’ve cultivated great relationships with a number of clients and customers, you can guarantee you’re doing something right! Having a portfolio of happy clients is proof that you’ve provideda high quality product or service – what more could you want?!

You receive outside praise

Now this point is pretty obvious, but if external people/businesses are speaking highly of you to their network, you can guarantee that that certain project has been a success.

You leave the office with a smile

Most of all, your work should make you happy. If you leave the office every evening with a smile on your face, you’re one of the lucky ones. Work should not only fill up your bank account but also fulfil your life in other ways.
