Job Postings Increasing, Your Industry's Numbers Here

The good news: Looks like the job market has had a good start to the year. Recently released figures from the good folks down at Indeed indicate January was a great month for new job postings. The survey indicates that new job ads on their site have increased for half of the major industries since they started trending this a year ago. These figures are more interesting than your traditional job boards reports as they are aggregated from free and paid for job boards, recruiters as well as company career pages.
The reason behind the increase
The economy is picking up and so are the hiring plans of most employers. After a year of austerity, doom and gloom this is great news for job seekers. Some companies have been operating on a bare bones principle in terms of staffing and the trend was bound to buck for the better at some point. To be honest, I would have been very surprised if we hadn’t seen an increase in job postings.
What does this mean to you?
If you cast an eye at the table below you will find the industries that are showing the best trends at the moment. If you are in Hospitality you are laughing as there are plenty of more opportunities available. You are doing well if you are in Education, Real Estate and Retail as well. It’s interesting to see that Real Estate going up and Construction going down. I reckon too many houses are built but at least they are starting to shift owners which is a great signal of economic recovery.
In case you are a freelancer, consultant or other outsourcer you might want to start working on your resume as companies are now beefing up their in-house work forces.

Let's get busy
When you know what job you want, start working on your resume, cover letter and Linkedin profile. Speak to your network, do some searches and contact recruiters. Before you know it you will be in your new gig and won't have to worry about all this stuff for at least another 12 months!
